Best Buy Inc Best Buy had been interested in entering China since the 1990s.By that time, China had been hosting many of the United States and Europe as far as distinct manufacturing products. The option of dual branding was what Best Buy was thinking in order to essentially join forces with Chinas retailer of electronics and appliances, Five Star. By coming together, Best Buy in United States thought that the two companies would be even stronger as one. This sort of dual branding worked very well in Canada and presumably would have the same success in China. Competitors Some of the main competitors of Best Buy are Wal-mart and Costco. The competitors were constantly increasing their CE retail market and in particular they increased the products that were less complex therefore easier to sell. Internet shopping and distributors such as Amazon or sites equal that are another usage of a competitor in the CE market. Also, home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowes were also venturing into unknown territory which was challenger for Best Buy. Lines were blurring as retailers of all kinds were widening their product assortments in pursuit of revenues and margins (Ivey, 2006). doubled branding in Canada seemed like logical step in that Best Buy and Canadas Future Shop, the main CE retailer there could join together and become stronger with all of the competition coming about (Ivey, 2006). Dual Branding Canada Canada was paid $363. 95 million dollars to acquire Future Shop. Among several reason wherefore the dual branding took place, the number one reason and approximately important was that Future Shop was an established brand with over 95 percent unaided brand awareness among Canadians (Ivey, 2006). Though dual branding seemed like a great idea there were also some downsides.Cannibalization was the main problem of course due to the products of Futur e Store eating the profits of Best Buy and vice versa. in that respect was also the immanent issue that the consumer would not know which brand was which. Despite these issues, by the first year of operations the dual branding strategy seemed to be working and cannibalization seemed minimal. It seemed only natural to give it a try in China (Ivey, 2006). Dual Branding China China was chosen as the second international expansion market primarily due to the overall market opportunity, consumer fundamentals and macro-economic factors (Ivey, 2006).However the Chinese consumer was different than that of the United States or Canada. Also, consumers were not really concerned with branding as much as they were messages relating to functional features. Therefore, the preference of brand did not really translate into revenue. There was also the issue of land acquisition as there were often delays which would force a store to take up to 6 months to even open its doors. The Chinese also preferr ed to deal with people they knew and had previous relationships with so pricing had to be up to par due to the consumer not providing much dull for it.With all of these problems, a dual branding in China did not seem as seamless as it was in Canada (Ivey, 2006). Conclusion It is understandable why Best Buy would want to go global to maximize its profit and consumer base all over. Though things seemed to work out in Canada, it would prove to be a much tougher hill to climb in China just based off the consumers alone and the way things are done there and entirely the way of life. It will be interesting to see if the places like Turkey and Mexico, other potential targets will have the same success rate as Canada, and not resemble Chinas issues.

Birth Control Psychological Research Essay Example for Free

Birth Control Psychological Research EssayThe article written by Edward Pohlman in October of 1966 brought up interesting points in relation back to psychologist and birth get a line. It provided both independent variables and dependent variables that helped to show why individuals decide on contraceptive method, or decide not to use them. He pushed to show why psychologist havent d superstar much research in the area of birth control and their related topics, by suggesting that non-psychologist are the researchers that boast interest in studying the topic because of potential overpopulation problems. I think the decision to treat independent and dependant variables about psychological effects of victimization birth control is relevant to all people that take part in intercourse and having children because these decisions are critical choices in life that decide whether future children will be able to thrive on our planet, and live without psychological damages from parental n eglect. Some variables include, but are not limited to the number of children wanted, contraceptions, and thrifty personality. (Pohlman, Eugenics Quarterly.). Some psychological factors that were pointed out to be some major independent variables were total family size, mothers age at first birth, duration of marriage, spatial arrangement between births, sex of the children, inability to have children, adoption and celibacy. (Polhman, Eugenics.). Psychologist do not play key roles in whether or not countries engage in wide use of birth control planning, or to control their population, rather private companies are relied upon to handle technical assistance and procedures. (Journal of loving Issues.). This is the problem that needs to be addressed and accounted for however, the author doesnt provide evidence or notation of where, who, what, and how the study is taking place. He continues with, psychologists play an important role in contraception because they have the intelligence a nd know-how (Pohlman, Edwards.). to intervene with a patients and help the people decide if birth control is something that is an option or not.Once again the author is providing a statement rather than actual facts to lead on his short letters, but the argument is sound. Some studies that psychologist participated in were promoting the estimate of contraception to both smaller families and that of larger families. The idea was to provide the idea that contraception wasnt necessarily a problem and that they had to deal with, rather more of an option. The problem with this particular independent variable is that relationships with one culture could be completely different with relationships with other cultures. Population densities take psychological effects, so studies found that since the world population was a major occupy then they would target high populated areas to conduct their research. These studies are important because of the food supply that would rapidly decline as th e population increased. (Pohlman, Journal of Social Issues.). The author could have researched a graph and included it in his argument for a more frontal approach to help the reading see the impartiality in which he is attempting to provide. Psychologists found that the same psychological effects can be played in reverse when giving birth to a child. In a large probability sample of American wifes in 1960, 17% were willing to admit that their latest conception had not in truth been wanted by both spouses. (Whelpton,Cambell, Patterson, 1966, Pp.235-239.). As a parent, you have responsibility to your child, but having a psychologist discuss the precautions involved both positive and negatives, can pay off you question ones desirability and how you feel about having another child or not. According to Edward Pohlman its more profitable for a psychologist to study the effects on psychological dependent variables such as, contraception and birth planning procedures, births of circumsta nces in the family, and population characteristics. This is why psychologist wait to conduct their research as strange to taking the study from the start. Studies have shown that that any psychological factors that could influence anyone in a given culture towards having children, or having more children would not show up for the testing. (The Psychology of Birth Planning.). Psychologist also found that social class or even unearthly preferences tend to play a key role in decision making time that can be psychological in its self. Every form of contraception has psychological effects on the person using them sexually. (Edward Pohlman.). The article didnt provide any data on psychological effects sexually, but it can be justified through the research of sterilization, abortion, infanticide, and abstinence. (Whelpton, P. K., Campbell, A. A., Patterson.).in Edwards research he didnt provide examples. Another form of dependent variable that was acknowledged was the effects of guilt. G uilt has been found to be one of the biggest issues when regarding to religious beliefs, rationalization and other phenomena related instances. (The Psycology of Birth Planning). Once again Edward Pohlman doesnt provide proof to justify his statements which is disappointing. In conclusion, the author leaves the reader questioning his argument because of the lack of data that he is able to extract from psychological studies. In my opinion, his sources are valid sources however, to complete his argument that psychologist havent done adequate research in the area of birth control and related topics, he needs to dig deeper and find sources that can find a better air to link the psychological factors on birth control and psychologists studies. This will help him complete his argument that without contraception our planet will be doomed do to over population. I also think he needs to find more information on the experiment entirely in its self. The studies took place in small and large p opulated areas, ok? As the reader, I want detail as to how the study was conducted? How many participants were involved? He gives examples of problems that could potentially be a disadvantage for psychologist. Edward Pohlman was correct that not enough studies are being conducted by psychologist. His argument is sound and on point.

Reflection On Placement Experience

Reflection On Placement ExperienceThe Ipswich Womens affectionateness Against Domestic Violence is a feminist community based organisation committed to working(a) towards the elimination of domestic and family violence throughout the community. The primary focus of IWCADV is to provide support to women and children survivors of domestic and family violence. This includes telephone information, referral and support services, court support for women, counselling services, throng work and childrens work. During my placement endure as a womens proponent at IWCADV I first spent a few weeks exposeing my understanding of the issues knobbed in domestic violence and the systems that are in place to support women and children who are survivors of domestic and family violence. My cognition of the issues affecting women and children experiencing domestic and family violence includes an understanding of the stimulated impacts of abuse (such as feelings of grief and loss, anger, guilt, dep ression, trauma), the loss of personal and physical security, safety concerns, the financial costs, family law and other legal issues, and power and control imbalances in relationships.I kick in essential my knowledge of the issues affecting women and children experiencing domestic and family violence in my university studies and my work experience. The understanding that I gained from my University studies was enhanced during my student placement at the Ipswich Womens Centre Against Domestic Violence. It was here that I developed my understanding of feminist perspectives on domestic and family violence, including the individual, familial, legal and social issues. In this role I was able to develop my understanding of feminist informed practises and techniques. I support this framework for practice as it can empower women and help them find their voice, encouraging women who have see the loss of control to make choices nearly their own life and to take responsibility for their l ife choices and to take back control. I worked from within a feminist framework to empower the client to find her voice and to discover her worth and make her own choices. In my role as a student counsellor at IWCADV I provided crisis support and advocacy work to women who have experienced domestic and family violence. During the beginning counselling sessions, I found it was quite difficult to incessantly follow the story and set direction for the counselling. I took a strengths based narrative approach and usually after 2 -3 sessions a clearer picture had developed of the clients experience with domestic violence, and this continued to unfold throughout the counselling sessions. One of the most personally rewarding aspects of my counselling experience was the opportunity to explore and experience symbol and sand tray therapy. I spent nearly time reading Sandplay and Symbol Work Emotional healing and personal development with children, adolescents and adults by stag Pearson and H elen Wilson to prepare for my personal experience with symbols and sand tray therapy during my professional supervision sessions. I then had the opportunity to introduce one of my counselling clients to the sand tray. Whilst I did have feelings of uncertainty about my ability to facilitate the process, I did feel comfortable enough with the setting and with my client to create a safe place for self-disco rattling and self-awareness. She was very(prenominal) open to the process and we both found this to be an enjoyable and meaningful experience. My client reported that this was a very positive experience for her and allowed her to process some of her experiences with domestic violence and that it was a breakthrough for her in terms of learning to accept and value herself. I felt that it was an honour to share this part of my clients journey. With another(prenominal) client who was directed by the Department of Child Safety to attend counselling, setting the direction for each session was more difficult. I did not consider that this woman was ready to explore some of the emotional issues related to the trauma that she had experienced as a result of long term domestic violence. I was encouraged by her regular attendance and I believe that this was a result of my increasing ability to develop rapport. I was able to develop high-priced rapport with my clients by being non-judgemental, using open ended questions and appropriate body language. I believe that my skill in developing rapport is reflected by the feedback and regular attendance to counselling sessions by my clients.I did struggle with ending the sessions on time and frequently found that sessions with some clients were running over 1.5 hours long. I spoke with some of the other workers at the service about this and they agreed that it could be difficult especially when women are exploring very painful issues and that it was important to be sensitive but direct when closing a counselling session. The group supervision times that I was included in at IWCADV were also very rewarding and inspiring times for me. The other workers at the service were all very passionate women with a strong commitment to empowering women and changing community attitudes about violence towards women. During group supervision there was opportunity and support for workers to reflect on their own feelings of despair and helplessness, and there was encouragement to extend and share your knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to domestic and family violence. The group times were also very rewarding team building occasions and there is a strong commitment at the service to supporting one another. For example, I found that after long phone calls or after a counselling session, another worker would check in with me to provide any support and to answer any questions that I had.

The Meaning Of Trust | Philosophy

The Meaning Of Trust PhilosophyWhen trusting someone or something, and you argon able to build confidence in that object, allowing yourself to be less guarded around it, and allow it to influence us. A dictionary definition of this would be enabling other people to take advantage of your vulnerabilities-but expecting that they will not do this. So how does this comp ar with how we objectify our emotions? Is it something that can be characterized that something that is able to be trusted? Of course, beca give our emotions are closely linked with our characters, they feed off of who we are as people. It is seen as immature or undeveloped to allow emotions to influence you in any immense way, and this is why someone would even pursualion arise this question. What is meant by the pursuit of friendship? perception as a way of cogniseBecause of its ambiguous nature, it can be very hard to define emotions. Even more challenging would be to distinguish it from other sensations such(prenom inal) as a temporary mood, or permanent sentimental trait. So with all these other terms in mind, emotion can be defined as the offspring of the sensations we feel in reaction to our environments and situations around us, that linger for a long period of time. An easy example such as being told unfortunate tidings or recover something joyful can make us feel different sensations of sadness or happiness. So if these sensations we call emotions are so straight with the occurrences we face daily, why even question its reliability? Because we, as compassionate beings have also been taught something that would not be considered as natural as the whim of emotions we have also been taught morality. The ability to distinguish what we imagine is ethically adept or wrong, regardless or our instinctive urges, is what makes us different than other forms of life, and the basis we are even able to ask this question. We combat with ourselves in order to achieve goals, defeat lifes trials, and to pursue knowledge. So, maybe the reality of the question is, is it even executable to know when to trust emotions? Or else it may be trying to explain that emotions have limited value for knowledge acquisition if any at all.Emotion as a value judgmentThesis StatementI believe there has to be some instances when we are able to trust our emotions when we are trying to acquire knowledge. Emotions are just a display of the biological responses we has humans experience. Emotion is also as one of the ways of knowing in the IB theory of knowledge.HistoryDefine History*Use TOK DefinitionGenocideHistorical event which arises the universal reasonRwandaWWII GermanyCambodiaUN The WorldAn excited attachment with the consciousnessThe knowledge of the laws created due to and for genocide was created due to an emotional response. When trying to gain knowledge in the Arts, the use of emotion is fundamental to understanding the pieces and the intentions of the artist. However with knowledge of human emotion, it is easy to understand how the intentions of the artist can be lost in the response of the spectators that view them. Our emotions during viewing different forms of the arts, such as music, literature or drama change with each person, because each person interprets the art differently. This can be seen with an example through music. Recently there has been a revolution of a new age brand of music called dub step, which can be described as a form of electronic music characterized by fathomless baselines. Many people find this type of music annoying and irritating, and characterize with dark, negative emotions. Others enjoy it be cause they experience the music as a stress reliever, because they dig the beats as melodious and peaceful a way to and an almost cathartic experience happening. Associating these emotions with the people that enjoy this form of music, people make judgments or so the dub step audience, our emotional judgment of people you would say that it had given aid in the process of gathering knowledge. But the stereotype that these persons are put into, gives a hasty generalization, therefore misleading knowledge.SummaryWhen we, as the knowers question our ability to trust our emotions in the pursuit of knowledge, what we are really trying to discover is, as humans, do we believe that our personalities and human faults allow us to not only discover new aspects in the world around us, but A higher awareness about ourselves or our they just obstacles that we have to overcome. A way to know when our emotions can benefit our pursuit of knowledge is when we are consciously aware that our emotion s influence that search. To know if an emotion will lead us down a negative or positive path in our quest for information, can be judged on a persons level of emotional intelligence. Emotion intelligence can be understood by describing it as, a persons ability to observe and control instinctive and natural urges brought out of us by our emotional state. An easy example to demonstrate emotional intelligence would ask a person to distinguish which emotions were being portrayed on anothers face. But even with such tests, it is difficult to give an empirical value to something as inexpressible as emotional intelligence.Closing ArgumentCounter ArgumentEmotions less valuable than reason as a way of knowing?Prove Counter Wrong the same level of value as a way of knowingConclusionIn Conclusion, by saying that we should not allow our emotions to influence the pursuit of knowledge is to ask the impossible. As human beings our emotions contribute to the overall motivation in, not only our p ursuit of knowledge, but in every endeavor we pursue.I believe it is possible to trust our emotions in every occurrence where knowledge can be gained, but the key is, to not allow your emotions to tamper with the intelligent voice of reason we all have developed due to our moral upbringings. Instead, the emotions will guide in us embracing the more natural inclinations and curiosities that we have instinctively. That is what they are there for.The value of emotion as a way of knowing depends on the kind of knowledge being pursued. If we classify knowledge by sections on the TOK wheel, the value of emotions are very high when concerning issues such as Ethics, The Arts, and . , but other areas that are based mainly off of factual data such as Natural Sciences and MathematicsAristotle quoteAnyone can be angry that is easy. But to be angry with the right person to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose and in the right way that is not easy. Aristotle (384-322BCE)
